These excerpts were taken from the bible of William (Bill) Harris who was born in 1877 in England & went to sea on a sailing ship in 1892. Passed away in Sydney at the age of 95

  • ……..”then went across to Table Bay with regiment during Boer War done two trips with horses”….….
  • ……..”until 1914 when I enlisted and went away with the first convoy to leave Australia. In November as a first aid on privates wages. Went to Gallipoly was sent back to England with a shipload of badly wounded boys then transferred to Flanders Hospital and did not get any further for the duration. A good job but plenty of work had 2 long leaves of absence trying to look up any relations, found none. Second leave went sight seeing with an English lad who sure knew his way around the English Counties. Arrive back in Aussy April 1919″……..
